What we do:

  • Work to maintain a diverse membership that is representative of geographic locale, culture, gender, economic status and racial or ethnic background.

  • Embrace a holistic or whole person approach to health, which recognizes the inter-relationship that exists among social, physical and emotional well-being.

  • Recognize the benefit of partnering with other organizations and associations with similar interests in a collegial and collaborative manner.

  • Respect the autonomy and supporting the self-determination of local communities in identifying and resolving their unique health care needs.

  • Empower members to effect positive change in rural health through grassroots efforts.

Eliminating Hepatitis C in Rural Communities

    Colleen Flanigan, RN, MS

Rural areas of New York State (NYS) see some of the highest rates of hepatitis C in the State. The most common risk for hepatitis C is injection drug use. The opioid epidemic has contributed to the rise in hepatitis C nationally and in NYS. This session will provide an overview of the trends in hepatitis C case rates in rural areas of NYS, review services currently available for hepatitis C prevention, testing and treatment and identify collaborations between rural health partners to advance NYS's efforts to eliminate hepatitis C as a public health problem by 2030.
